: : : Optimal Conditions For Preserving Wine
To ensure optimal preservation, a quality wine cellar must meet a number of standards. Through proven technology and superior manufacturing quality, Cavavin wine cellars offer an environment that recreates the five conditions necessary for the proper aging and preservation of wine.
I- Consistent temperature
Extreme temperatures must be avoided at all times. Temperatures above 15°C will accelerate the aging of the wine, while a temperature below 9°C will slow this process down. Cavavin has had a special thermostat designed for its wine cellars which ensures a consistent temperature of 12 +/-2°C. This consistency is further ensured by our insulated double casing (see vibration).
II- No vibration
A calm environment is critical for quality wine. Vibrations prevent sediments from settling and hinder the development of wine's flavor and aroma. Our wine cellars are equipped with 2 casings separated by specially designed thermal insulation. The outer casing plays an esthetic role, while the inner casing protects your bottles from vibrations. Moreover, cellar compressors are located in a distinct space and installed on padding that absorbs any vibration.
III- Hygrometry (humidity)
Overly dry air will dry out bottle corks, leading to evaporation of the wine and excess oxidation. Air that is too humid, in turn, will impact bottle label quality.
Cavavin wine cellars produce and maintain the ideal level of humidity through accumulated condensation. Excess humidity is evacuated through a drain that empties into a basin under the compressor. Any leftover humidity then evaporates due to the heat given off by the compressor.
IV- Proper air circulation
Wine breathes through the bottle’s cork. The majority of our wine cellars have a ventilation system, and all of them are built with odorless components, thus preventing unpleasant odors.
V- Darkness
Protection from UV rays is highly important. Cavavin wine cellars are equipped with full doors or glass doors that have been processed to filter UV rays and seal off outside light. Our glass doors ensure optimal thermal performance and bear the ENERGY STAR seal. This is the best benchmark on the market. Moreover, the cellar's inside lighting, while very limited, makes it possible to clearly see the bottles and gives the cellar a stylish look when used as a display unit.
: : : Choosing The Right Cellar
There are three factors you should consider to help you choose the wine cellar that best meets your needs and fits your decor.
1- The number of bottles to be stored
Do not underestimate how quickly you will acquire bottles of wine for your cellar. We recommend always leaving 25% empty space in your wine cellar, to provide adequate room for storing future must-haves.
2- Wine cellar location
Space issues? Go for a built-in model. Your wine cellar will be out of sight? A full-door option will be a perfect match.
If you plan to install your wine cellar in the living or dining room, it can be built using the same wood as the surrounding furniture, to blend in with your decor. Consider adding glass doors for a more fashionable look and to showcase your wine collection.
3- Your budget
Cavavin understands the importance of the price-quality ratio. Better still, we firmly believe that added value is critical, and we apply this philosophy to our wine cellars’ capacity. That’s why a 200 bottles cellar (Majestika series, laminated metal) costs only 20% more than a similar 90 bottles model. |
